CTSI Programs
CTSI Coordination and Administration
Housed in the China Basin office, CTSI Central houses CTSI Admin that helps coordinate and administer the CTSA award, sets strategic direction for CTSI with its Board of Directors, and puts into place professional management structures to enable efficient implemention of CTSI's vision. CTSI Central also houses the Planning, Evaluating and Tracking program (PET) program and the Virtual Home program. The PET program is responsible for bringing best practices to the management of individual programs and CTSI as a whole. The Virtual Home program focuses on communication, coordination and the use of technology to create a 'virtual home' for clinical & translational research at UCSF.
CTSI's Mission is accomplished through the programs below:
Research Support & Infrastructure
- Clinical Research Center (crc)
- CTSI's Clinical Research Center manages 9 different sites for faculty and their partners to conduct clinical research. The sites range from hospital settings to community settings and provide a wide range of supporting services.
- Consultation Services (cs; formerly bread)
- Provides consulting services and designs innovative ways to provide access to knowledge on biostatistics, ethics, design, data management and health policy.
- Biomedical Informatics (bi)
- Includes two groups, one that helps investigators tackle the analysis of large data sets (Bioinformatics Data Analysis), the other that provides a variety of security, data and hosting services (Academic Research Systems).
- Regulatory Knowledge & Services (rks)
- Provides expert navigational advice to help with regulatory and CHR concerns. Also provides in depth consulting.
- Community Engagement (ce)
- The Community Engagement program works to train UCSF researchers to work effectively with community partners and vice versa. The program matches researchers with community partners and provides expert advice.
- Health Policy (hp)
- Provides consulting on health policy implications of clinical & translational research, via Consultation Services. Affiliated with UCSF's Institute for Health Policy.
- Global Health (gh)
- Provides services and resources for researchers interested in doing research internationally. Affiliated with the Department of Global Health Sciences.
Career Advancement
- Career Advancement (ca)
- Includes the Mentor Development Program that trains 30-40 senior investigators a year to be successful mentors. Provides career advancement programs to enable greater diversity at UCSF. Works to ensure promotion criteria across the four schools take collaborative research into account and emphasize clinical & translational research
- Strategic Opportunities Support (sos)
- Funds pilot and other grants to enable researchers to test-drive ideas for larger grants as well as a variety of career enhancing areas such as mini flexibal sabbatical awards.
Training
- Clinical & Translational Science Training (ctst)
- The training program is composed of four units. CTST is also launching a 'T2' track on dissemination science.
- Training in Clinical Research (ticr)
- Training for students, postdocs, fellows and residents. The training is designed and conducted with the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics.
- KL2 Scholars
- A career development award that provides training, mentoring, infrastructure and protected time for junior faculty to pursue multidisciplinary clinical research.
- Resident Training Program
- Targeted training in clinical research for residents
- Pathways to Careers in Clinical and Translational Research (pacctr)
- This program fosters the incorporation of clinical research training in the core curriculum of all medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy pre-doctoral students.
Coordination, Communication and Evaluation (CTSI Central)
- Virtual Home
- The Virtual Home program produces this portal for clinical & translational researchers, and works with others on campus to coordinate the identification and digital delivery of key resources for researchers at UCSF. Virtual home is currently piloting more experimental knowledge management and videoconferencing solutions for UCSF.
- Planning, Evaluation & Tracking
- The Planning, Evaluation and Tracking program (PET) works across CTSI programs and with CTSI leadership to plan for programmatic and CTSI-wide deliverables, and introduce and monitor program management best practices for all CTSI programs.
