Pathways to Careers in Clinical and Translational Research (PACCTR) Program
Types of Fellowships
Short-term Fellowships
- Short-Term Fellowships: 2 or 3-month summer fellowships and 3-month quarterly fellowships for UCSF health science students.
One-Year Fellowships
- Long-Term Fellowship: Intensive training research fellowships for UCSF health science students designed to provide a detailed exposure to clinical research.
- Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Clinical Research Fellowships: Offered to non-UCSF medical students.
- International Research in Africa: A mentored International Clinical Research Fellowship program for medical students, established by UCSF Medical School and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Offered to both UCSF and non-UCSF medical students only.
Two-Year Master's
- Master's Degree Program in Clinical and Translational Research: Two-year fellowship leading to a master's degree.
Eligibility
UCSF applicants must be currently enrolled in the UCSF School of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry or Pharmacy. With the exception of students in the School of Nursing, all students must be pre-doctoral. Students from other universities, or allied health professions are also eligible to apply for the program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
Medical students from outside of UCSF must apply through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation application process as well as complete the supplemental UCSF application materials..
Students from UCSF allied health programs must apply using the Pathways Funding Agency (PFA) application process.
UCSF Medical students should also apply through the Pathways Funding Agency, http://medschool.ucsf.edu/pathways/funding/index.html unless they wish to apply to outside schools or to the International Doris Duke Program at UCSF. UCSF Medical Students applying for the International program need to apply through the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and also complete the UCSF Pathways Funding Agency application.
Selection Criteria
The campus-wide Multidisciplinary Advisory Committee (AC) will review applications, research projects and mentorship and make selection recommendations to the Executive Committee (EC). Applicants will be judged on the following:
- Personal Statement (long-term fellowships)
- Quality of Research Plan
- Letters of Support (long-term fellowships)
- Mentor’s Endorsement
